Water Dispenser Repair

How to Fix a Leaking Water Dispenser

If you find yourself asking, “Why is my water dispenser leaking,” these directions will help. The reservoir of your water cooler is made from durable stainless steel or heavy-duty, commercial-grade plastic. For this reason, a leak usually originates from the water bottle. A vacuum seal is required to prevent your water reservoir from overflowing. If there is a pinhole or crack in the water bottle, the seal will not be created. The result will be a leak from the bottom, or spout of your water cooler. You may even see it overflow from the top. To fix a leaking water dispenser, follow these steps:

  1. Remove the water bottle.
  2. Drain the reservoir entirely by holding down both the cold and hot spigots.
  3. Place a fresh bottle on the water cooler.
  4. Watch for leaks. If none occur, you know that the first bottle is the culprit.
  5. Please place a large X on the faulty bottle and label it a leaker.
  6. Leave it out for your driver on your next delivery date and we will replace the bottle at no charge.

Water Dispenser Thermostat Adjustment

A water dispenser thermostat adjustment will make your water warmer or cooler. The water dispenser temperature control is located on the back of the unit. The thermostat may or may not be labeled depending on the model that you have. It can be a bit conspicuous – look for a flat head screw either at the top or bottom of the grating that backs your water cooler.

To make the water cooler colder rotate the screw clockwise about 1 hour on a clock face. Allow the unit to stabilize for 2-3 hours before testing for the new cooler temperature. Be careful not to turn the screw more than 1 hour at a time as this may result in a frost ring and the eventual freezing of your reservoir.

Why Does My Water Cooler Freeze Up?

If your water has stopped flowing from your water cooler, the reservoir may have frozen. To treat this problem, please follow these steps:

  1. Remove the water bottle.
  2. Unplug your unit and allow it to defrost overnight.
  3. Replace the water bottle.
  4. If you have recently adjusted the thermostat of your water cooler, follow the steps in the instructions labeled “Water Dispenser Thermostat Adjustment” (above) to rotate the screw back 1 hour.

Water Cooler Not Dispensing Cold Water

Your water cooler may not dispense cold water for several reasons.

  • The reservoir is frozen – see the steps above outlined in “Why does my water cooler freeze up?”.
  • An air pocket has blocked the flow of water – remove the water bottle, drain the spigots, replace the water bottle, and try again.
  • The unit needs to be cleaned – check out our How To Clean Your Water Dispenser article for full cleaning instructions.

Water Cooler is Not Cooling

If your water cooler is suddenly not cooling, your outlet is likely the culprit. Please follow these steps:

  1. Check to see if the cooler is plugged in.
  2. If it is, test the outlet by plugging another electrically powered item into the same receptacle.
  3. Once you have verified that the outlet is working properly, contact us for further assistance.

Water Dispenser is Not Heating Water

If your water dispenser is not heating water, you should first ensure that your outlet is working correctly. Also, there is a red switch on the back of most water coolers that activates the hot tank. Press the button to the on position and wait for 30 to 45 minutes, if it still does not heat the water, contact us for further assistance.
