We all know that it is the right thing to do. There is no question that drinking more water benefits our bodies in countless ways. But, how do we do it? How do we manage to muscle down the recommended 64 ounces every single day? Establishing a healthy water drinking routine is easy with a few tips that over time, will leave you happily consuming more than enough H2O without even thinking about it!
1) Drink tea.
Not all water consumption needs to be cold, hot herbal tea counts too!
2) Use a water tracking app.
Fitnesspal or Waterlogged are both great apps that you can download on your smartphone to help you keep a record of your consumption.
3) Have it with you.
It is so simple; you can’t drink it if you don’t have it! Always make sure you have access to water or carry a bottle at all times.
4) Drink water with every meal.
This is a biggy and I guarantee that eventually, you will find yourself preferring a refreshing glass of water with your meals over soda.
5) Add flavor.
Infuse your water with fruits or herbs such as lemon, strawberries or mint. This will spice things up a bit leaving you with a great tasting, unique beverage.
6) Use rubber bands.
Yes, I said rubber bands…a friend taught me this trick long ago, and I still use it to this day. Start each morning by placing four rubber bands on your water bottle (16 oz or larger). Each time you finish a bottle and refill at your water cooler take a rubber band off. When you have removed the last rubber band, you know that you have met your goal for the day!
7) Buy a water bottle that you love.
Spoil yourself with a really cool water bottle that you love, this will encourage you to have it with you, drink out of it and not lose it!
8) Rally for a water cooler at work.
Having a water cooler in the workplace has proven time and time again to increase employees water drinking dramatically. If you need further incentive to convince your boss- it has also been proven to increase productivity!
9) Use a straw.
Most people simply drink more when using a straw. Experiment with this for yourself to see what method of drinking works best for you.
10) Set a specific goal.
You can’t know if you have met a goal if you don’t know what it is. Set a specific amount you would like to drink each day.
11) Do a mid day check in.
This will allow you to make tweaks to your consumption rate to assure that you met your goal by the evening.
12) Add a little fizz.
If you simply can not live without carbonation, sparkling waters are an excellent alternative to soda. Use a soda maker to carbonate the water from you water cooler or filter, add a little lemon, and you have yourself a refreshing little treat that will count towards your daily intake.
There you have it; you now have no excuses. Start by implementing at least one of these tips into your routine, and you will be well on your to a healthier lifestyle.
