Everybody knows that drinking enough water is a healthy habit. But, it is hard to establish new routines. Most of us start strong and then get too busy or forget about our goal altogether.
According to developgoodhabits.com (DGH), there are some things we can do to help. Use these suggestions from the beginning, and you will be more likely to stick to the goal of drinking more water.
In this article, we will summarize the tips offered by DGH. We will focus on one – tracking. We believe that tracking your water intake is the most important thing to solidify the practice. Plus, we have included a free water tracker printable to download!
First, pick only one habit at a time. For our purposes, this is – drink enough water every day. “Enough” means a different amount for each of us, depending on many factors. Read this article to determine how much water you should be drinking. You should also analyze which type of water is best for you to drink. DGH also suggests that we try the new habit for at least 30 days, make it part of our routine, never miss a day, and of course track it.
Tracking your water intake is key. How do you know you have won if you don’t keep score? Luckily, there are a few easy ways to do this. You can try one of these water tracking apps. Or, for the rest of us that prefer good ol’ fashioned pen and paper, a printable water tracker works great. Some fluid intake charts use a daily format, some use a monthly format. We chose a weekly option as a way to work small wins into our habit formation. You can click here or on the image below to download a free copy.
Getting kids to drink more water is a real struggle. A kid’s water tracker enables them to actively participate. Try letting them color in the water drops and institute rewards each day they accomplish their goal. Although, for most children, the act of filling in all the water droplets is enough motivation.
Try taking your free water tracker printable to work for a friendly competition or a workplace wellness program. By engaging your co-workers you create accountability. Make a hydration station with a water cooler, reusable bottles, and printed trackers. You and your peers will become healthier together. Plus, increase morale and camaraderie! Be careful not to take it too far. You can have too much of a good thing, including water.
